Backup & Restore
The Backup screen lets you export your complete show data to a local file and import it later on the same device or on another device.
Overview
Backup in DMX Node is a manual export/import operation. You initiate it, choose where to save the file, and import it when you need to restore or transfer your data. There is no automatic synchronization or cloud storage.
What Is Included
A backup export includes all show data:
- Scenes and scene banks
- Fixtures (including mode definitions and channel mappings)
- Groups
- Submasters (including scope and merge mode settings)
- Chases (including steps, timing, and mode)
- FX layers (including waveform type and parameters)
Exporting
- 1.Navigate to the Backup screen.
- 2.Tap Export.
- 3.Choose a location to save the file using the system file picker.
- 4.The file is saved as a JSON file. Keep a copy in a safe location.
Importing
- 1.Navigate to the Backup screen.
- 2.Tap Import.
- 3.Select the previously exported JSON file using the system file picker.
- 4.The app loads the data from the file and replaces the current show data.
File Format
The backup file is a JSON document. The file contains all show data in a structured format that can be read by DMX Node on any supported platform.
The file is not encrypted. Do not include sensitive information in scene or fixture names if you plan to share the file.
Limitations
- No cloud backup or automatic sync. Files are stored locally only.
- No version history. Each export creates a new file; the app does not maintain a history of changes.
- The file format may change between major app versions. Compatibility between versions is not guaranteed.
