Sort & Repack

Sort & Repack reorders fixtures and automatically recalculates their DMX start addresses so the universe stays clean and sequential.

What It Does

When you reorder fixtures using Sort & Repack, the app recalculates each fixture's start address based on its new position in the list. Fixtures are packed sequentially with no gaps between them.

015PAR B4ch

009PAR B4ch

When to Use It

  • You added a new fixture in the middle of your rig and want to insert it between existing fixtures without manually shifting all addresses.
  • You removed a fixture and want to close the address gap it left.
  • You're reorganizing your fixture list to match the physical rig layout.
  • Address ranges have become fragmented after multiple edits.

How to Use It

  1. 1

    Open the fixtures list

    Navigate to the Fixtures tab.

  2. 2

    Reorder fixtures

Drag fixtures to the desired order. This represents the physical layout of your rig.

  3. 3

    Run Sort & Repack

Tap the Sort & Repack button. The app recalculates all start addresses from address 001 upward, assigning each fixture the next available block based on its channel count.

  4. 4

    Review and confirm

Review the new addresses before confirming. Update your physical fixtures (DIP switches or fixture menus) to match the new addresses.

Example

You have three fixtures and add a fourth in position 2:

After reorder (before repack):

001Spot A8ch
030New PAR D4ch
015PAR B4ch
025Wash C12ch

After Sort & Repack:

001Spot A8ch → 001–008
009New PAR D4ch → 009–012
013PAR B4ch → 013–016
017Wash C12ch → 017–028

Address Gaps

Sort & Repack eliminates gaps between fixture address ranges. If you intentionally want to leave unused channels between fixtures (for example, to reserve addresses for a fixture you plan to add), do not use Sort & Repack — set start addresses manually instead.
