Network Setup

DMX Node communicates with the Art-Net node over your local Wi-Fi network. This page explains what the network requirements are and how to configure the connection.

Requirements

  • A Wi-Fi router or access point.
  • The phone running DMX Node connected to Wi-Fi.
  • The Art-Net node connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • UDP port 6454 not blocked between the phone and the node.

Same Network Rule

The phone and the Art-Net node must be on the same local Wi-Fi network and IP subnet. Art-Net uses UDP unicast — the packet is sent directly to the node's IP address. If the devices are on different subnets or separated by a router with packet filtering, the Art-Net packets will not reach the node.

Node IP Address

The Art-Net node's IP address is the network destination for all DMX output. You need this address to configure the app.

Find the node's IP address in your router's connected device list, or check the node's own configuration interface if it has one. Enter this address in Settings in DMX Node.

For other Art-Net nodes: consult the node's documentation to find or configure its IP address. Many commercial nodes have a fixed default IP or a web interface.

Art-Net Configuration

In DMX Node Settings, enter:

Node IP addressThe IP address of your Art-Net node on the local network
Port N / S / UArt-Net universe address for each output port — must match the node's DMX output setting
Periodic resend intervalHow often (in ms) the full universe is retransmitted even without changes

DMX Node sends Art-Net packets using UDP unicast to the configured IP on port 6454. Packets are sent whenever channel values change, plus at the periodic resend interval to handle node reconnections.

Wi-Fi Isolation

Many routers have a setting called AP Isolation, Client Isolation or Wireless Isolation. When enabled, devices on the same Wi-Fi network cannot communicate with each other — only with the internet. This will prevent Art-Net packets from reaching the node.

If Art-Net output is not working despite the phone and node being on the same Wi-Fi network, check your router's settings for isolation options and disable them.

Network Troubleshooting

Quick checks when Art-Net output is not working:

  1. 1.Confirm the phone is connected to Wi-Fi (not mobile data).
  2. 2.Confirm the Art-Net node is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. 3.Verify the node's IP address in Settings matches the node's actual IP.
  4. 4.Check that AP Isolation is not enabled on the router.
  5. 5.Verify UDP port 6454 is not blocked by a firewall.
  6. 6.Try pinging the node IP from the phone using a network utility app.
